Zimbabwe has officially applied to join the BRICS, the country's Foreign Minister, Amon Murvira, said during a visit to Moscow. Speaking with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference, Murvira stressed Zimbabwe's commitment to fulfilling the requirements of BRICS membership. "BRICS is one of the most important platforms for economic cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect and the sovereign equality of nations," Murvira said. "Zimbabwe will benefit from any system that respects these key principles of human interaction and human progress, and BRICS is one of them." He confirmed that Zimbabwe is in the process of agreeing on the terms of the BRICS and is awaiting a response from the group based on an internal consensus.
